Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]F-ATR (also referred to as [18F]ATR-F) is a fluorine-18 labeled radiotracer and analog of nevanimibe (ATR-101) developed by the University of Michigan for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of sterol O-acyltransferase 1 (SOAT1, also known as ACAT1)-mediated cholesterol metabolism. SOAT1 is an endoplasmic reticulum-associated enzyme that catalyzes the esterification of free cholesterol for storage. By targeting SOAT1, [18F]F-ATR is designed to non-invasively image cholesterol utilization and SOAT1 expression in the adrenal glands. This imaging approach aims to identify overproduction of aldosterone from cholesterol in patients with primary aldosteronism (PA), potentially offering a non-invasive alternative to highly invasive adrenal vein sampling (AVS). Additionally, the tracer is being evaluated for imaging cholesterol metabolism in atherosclerosis and cancer.
